Water where it matters, not where it doesn't.

Drip for beds, MP rotators for turf, smart controllers that honor Colorado Springs watering rules — and rebate paperwork handled on your behalf.

Overview

What irrigation looks like with Ponderosa

A well-designed irrigation system uses 30–40% less water than the typical rotor system it replaces, waters more evenly, and takes advantage of Colorado Springs Utilities rebates of up to $100 per smart controller. We design, install, tune, and maintain systems for new construction and legacy homes alike.

Our preferred controllers are Rachio 3 and Hunter Hydrawise — both WiFi-connected, both EPA WaterSense-certified, both eligible for the full CSU rebate. For zones, we use MP Rotators on turf (they apply water slowly enough to actually soak in on clay) and pressure-compensating drip in beds. Everything gets a blow-out in October.

What every irrigation job includes.

No hidden line-items. If it isn't in your estimate, we tell you before we do it — not after.

  • Head-by-head system audit with pressure and flow measurement
  • Zone-by-zone redesign if needed (MP Rotators, drip, bubblers)
  • Smart controller install (Rachio 3 or Hunter Hydrawise)
  • CSU rebate paperwork filed on your behalf
  • Backflow preventer test and certification
  • Leak detection and repair
  • Annual spring start-up and fall blow-out
  • Controller programming based on plant water needs, not acreage
  • WiFi setup and homeowner training on the controller app
  • 2-year warranty on new installs

How we get there.

The same 5-step rhythm on every irrigation project we take on.

  1. 01

    Audit

We measure static pressure, test each zone, flag broken heads and leaks, and calculate actual vs. ideal water use. Written report delivered within a week.

  2. 02

    Design / redesign

If the system needs work, we redesign zones to group plants by water need, not by location. Grass gets rotors, shrubs get drip.

  3. 03

    Install / upgrade

New heads, new valves if needed, new controller, and CSU rebate paperwork.

  4. 04

    Program & train

We program the controller based on plant needs, set up WiFi and the homeowner app, and walk you through adjusting zones on your phone.

  5. 05

    Seasonal service

    Spring start-up in April, fall blow-out before October 15. Mid-season check-ups available.

Honest numbers before you sign.

These are the ranges we see on most Colorado Springs projects. Your written estimate will be precise, line-item, and valid for 30 days.

Questions we get a lot.

If you don't see your question, give us a call or send a note. Most emails get answered the same business day.

Will a smart controller really save me water?

Yes. Rachio and Hunter both track local weather and skip or adjust watering when rain is in the forecast or it's cooler than average. Typical households save 20–35% on summer water bills after switching.

What's the CSU rebate?

Colorado Springs Utilities offers up to $100 for qualifying smart controllers (Rachio, Hunter, Rain Bird) and up to $2/sq ft for turf replacement. We file the paperwork for you.

Can I keep my old controller?

If it's a Rain Bird ESP or similar with a rain sensor port, yes. If it's a basic timer without weather sensing, replacing it almost always pays for itself in one summer.

What about drip vs. spray for lawns?

Subsurface drip on lawns is possible but expensive and hard to retrofit. MP Rotators (matched precipitation nozzles on rotary heads) are the sweet spot — they apply water at 0.4" per hour, slow enough for clay soils to absorb, and save 20–30% over fixed sprays.

When do I need to schedule winterization?

By October 15. After that point, a hard freeze can split pipes and backflow devices. We book the second half of October and first week of November each year.
