Every Ponderosa project starts on foot. Adam walks the property with you, listens to how you actually use the yard, and measures the things that matter: sun exposure, prevailing wind, soil type, slope, drainage, and the little quirks your house has picked up over the years.
From that walk we draft a scaled plan in CAD, overlay a plant schedule matched to USDA zone 5b–6a, and size irrigation zones against your water pressure. You leave with something you can actually build — not a dreamy rendering that collapses at the first real quote.

Walk & listen
A 60–90 minute visit where we measure the property, talk about how you use it, and flag the site's opportunities and constraints.

Concept sketch
Within 10 days you get a hand-drawn concept — loose, directional, focused on how the spaces want to relate to each other.

Scaled plan
The concept becomes a to-scale CAD drawing with plant schedule, irrigation zones, and material callouts.

Revise & price
One round of revisions is included. Then we line-item price the build so you can choose the full project or a phased approach.

Hand off or build
You can take the plan to any contractor, or we can build it. If we build, the full design fee applies as credit toward the project.

Do I have to build the project with Ponderosa?
No. The plan is yours. Many homeowners use our design as a bid document for other contractors, or build it themselves in phases. We only ask that you get the plan from us — installation is optional.
Can you work with my existing landscape?
Yes, and we prefer to. Mature trees, established shrubs, and hardscape that's still good are design assets. We only remove what has to go.
How is this different from a landscape architect?
A licensed landscape architect is required for commercial work and complex engineering over 4 ft retaining walls. For residential yards, our designs are buildable, permitted where needed, and priced against what contractors will actually charge.
What if I only want part of the design?
We can quote a concept-only package ($350) that produces a hand-sketch master plan without the full CAD documentation. Best if you plan to build it yourself.
Do you design front yards separately from back?
Yes. Many clients design the whole property but build the back first (where they live) and the front later. The phased budget makes that easy.
